Former Ambassador and Civil Rights Leader to Speak at Owens Corning

The Honorable George W. Haley Visits in Tribute to Black History

TOLEDO, Ohio, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Owens Corning (OTC: OWENQ) (BULLETIN BOARD: OWENQ) announced that The Honorable George W. Haley, former U.S. Ambassador and civil rights leader, will visit the company today to share his life experiences with employees in recognition of Black History month.

The Honorable George W. Haley served under President Clinton as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of The Gambia from 1998 to 2001. Mr. Haley also served as Chairman and Commissioner of the Postal Rate Commission under Presidents George H. Bush and Clinton respectively. As a successful public servant and lawyer, Mr. Haley lived through some of the harshest events in U.S. civil rights history.

He began his public service career in the state of Kansas as deputy city attorney in 1954 and served ten years later as State Senator. Mr. Haley has represented the United States as a member of presidential delegations to the 22nd General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and African American Summits in Africa. He is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia, and was the second African American to receive a law degree from the University of Arkansas.

Observance of Black History Month at Owens Corning is supported by its African American Resource Group (AARG). The group encourages employees to spend time learning about black history and celebrate the numerous contributions African Americans have made to the world.
